Dreams do not belong to us alone. They take shape within the social worlds, material environments and histories we inhabit, carrying relations that waking consciousness may struggle to perceive.
Curated by Jelena Sofronijevic, TWO FILMS ON DREAMING presents two new long-form films by Ashish Ghadiali. Emerging from two years of collaborative research, On Synchronicity and Dream Ecologies approach dreaming as a mode of attention: a means of encountering connections between psychic, social and ecological life.
Each film preserves a real-time passage from a much longer process of inquiry. Rather than explaining those processes retrospectively, they remain inside the encounter: with conversation, hesitation, silence and the forms of knowledge that emerge when people give sustained attention to one another.
Together, the films continue an inquiry informed by Félix Guattari’s “three ecologies”: the proposition that environmental, social and mental life cannot be understood separately. This framework underpins Radical Ecology, the experimental studio in which Ghadiali and Sofronijević collaborate and where both films were developed.
The evening begins with a conversation between Sofronijevic, Ghadiali and the world’s pre-eminent scholar of Carl Jung, Professor Sonu Shamdasani, who is also the key contributor throughout On Synchronicity, asking: what does the theory of synchronicity imply for the practice of ecology?

On Synchronicity documents the beginning of a third day of filmingduring a three-day interview with the renowned historian of psychology and CarlJung scholar Professor Sonu Shamdasani, recorded over Easter 2025.
Shamdasani recounts the collaboration between Jung, one of the twentieth century’s most influential innovators in psychology, and the theoretical physicist Wolfgang Pauli. Their exchange became the ground from which a theory of synchronicity emerged: an attempt to understand meaningful connections between consciousness, physical reality and time that could not be explained through causality alone.
As the conversation between Shamdasani and Ghadiali unfolds, another question emerges: what might this theory mean for the practice of ecology?

DREAM ECOLOGIES

Dream Ecologies documents the final meeting in an 18-month experiment of the same name.
The project began with a public invitation in the summer of 2024. It asked dreamers to come forward who were willing to share private dream material and explore the social and environmental possibilities held within their dreams. Meeting monthly at the Radical Ecology studio in Dartington, the group cultivated a space in which intimate experiences could enter a collective and experimental public life.
The process also extended into the North Woods at Dartington, KARST and Devil’s Point in Plymouth, the Thelma Hulbert Gallery in Honiton, and Merrivale on Dartmoor.
In the film, Ghadiali and collaborator David Harbott reflect on the evolution of the project while demonstrating the form of collective attention that had consolidated during its final six months. The film remains inside that space for 90 minutes, allowing its pauses, uncertainties and relationships to become part of the work.
ABOUT THE PARTICIPANTS
Ashish Ghadiali is an artist-researcher working across film, writing, performance and sound. His practice also encompasses the construction of networks, sites of learning and collaborative infrastructures conceived as living decolonial systems. He is co-founder and director of Radical Ecology. His recent films include 7 seconds/this part of the world contains a complete world (2025), Can you tell the time of a running river?(2024), Invasion Ecology (2024) and Planetary Imagination (2023).
Jelena Sofronijevic is a producer, curator, writer and researcher working across cultural history, politics and the arts. Her curatorial projects include Invasion Ecology, SEEDLINGS: Diasporic Imaginaries and Seeds of Hate and Hope. She produces the EMPIRE LINES podcast and is Curator with Radical Ecology. She is undertaking a practice-based PhD at Gray’s School of Art.
Sonu Shamdasani is a historian of psychology and psychiatry and Professor of Jung History at University College London. His research has transformed the historical understanding of Carl Jung and the development of modern psychology. He edited the first publication of Jung’s Liber Novus, The Red Book, and co-founded the Philemon Foundation to bring Jung’s unpublished manuscripts, seminars and correspondence into print.
ABOUT RADICAL ECOLOGY
Radical Ecology is an experimental studio based in Dartington, South Devon. Its work brings artistic, political and ecological inquiry into shared practice, creating spaces in which different ways of knowing, imagining and living together can be tested.
Drawing on Félix Guattari’s conception of environmental, social and mental ecologies as inseparable, the studio develops durational projects, collective research and public programmes concerned with the conditions of life in a time of climate breakdown.
