Following an ‘offline’ conversation exploring bioregionalism in May, the Catalyst Circle convened in July to explore possibilities and tensions of imagining and mapping positive futures. What is opened up when we imagine worlds beyond the constraints of the current moment? What, and who, do these imaginings miss out, or exclude? And, what does it mean to map pathways to alternative futures, in a context of profound uncertainty and rapid change?
The conversation responded to a presentation by Catalyst Circle member Ian Burton of the work he and colleagues are doing through the Post-Growth Modelling Community, an interdisciplinary community of post-growth scholars and practitioners, which is creating a set of stories showing different possible pathways leading to five post-growth future scenarios.
The Post-Growth Modelling Community is opening up their work for external review, and is inviting critical and diverse engagement, including to help highlight what may be missing or excluded from the models.
Ian is a member of the PGMC and is also exploring questions surrounding uncertainty in modelling practices and how they can be navigated responsibly.
