We’re reaching out to PoC creatives in Devon and Cornwall to join Archipelago - a year-long research and support network hosted by Radical Ecology.
Organised around bi-monthly gatherings, this network will provide space for a small community of artists, curators, activists and thinkers to learn about one another’s practices and how they are shaped in relation to the South-West landscape.
This call-out emerges at a moment where we’re thinking with archipelagos rather than regions, shifting attention to constellations of relations that bridge defined borders and enclosures, while foregrounding broader questions around race, inequality and place-based belonging. How do our bodies, actions and practices live with and move through the entangled (hi) stories of excavated lands? What might liberation look like here, with this community, and in this landscape?
Each gathering will be a site for shared reflection and experimentation with works and thoughts-in-progress. We aim to nurture the imperfections in our creative and reparative acts - encouraging improvisation and storytelling over technical perfection, while embracing repetition and iteration as movements towards change.
Together we’ll set out the approach and structure of this year-long project and share responsibility for co-facilitating the gatherings. These may take the form of artist-crits, walks, workshops, or other (combinations of) processes that emerge along the way.
First session: Artist Crits on Sunday 29th Sept at the Radical Ecology Studio, Dartington, with 5 more meetings across Devon & Cornwall to follow.
If the invitation speaks to you, get in touch via studio@radicalecology.earth by 9th Sept with a short statement describing your practice, how you connect to the invitation, and your availability. We’re also happy to receive Expressions of Interest via video or voice memo if preferred.
